Mother with child and diaper bagNew moms can easily feel overwhelmed when taking their baby somewhere, especially on a long trip. If you’re leaving the house with your baby, your key defense to emergency situations is your diaper bag. By having a well-stocked diaper bag, you can be sure that you’re ready for any occasion.

First, think about the items that you’ll need whenever you leave the house, like baby wipes and pacifiers. You probably have multiple diaper bags, but instead of transferring items from bag to bag, which might mean you mistakenly leave items behind, keep a set of supplies in every bag. You should also keep an emergency plastic bag full of supplies in your car if possible. That way, if you run out of diapers or drop a teething ring on the ground, all you have to do is walk to your car to replace it.

When choosing items for your diaper bag, keep I mind that smaller is better. Although purchasing items in bulk can help you save money, if you make that choice, find a way to split up the product so that you can keep the bag light and easy to carry. Diaper bags that are too heavy carry can hurt your back and make it hard for you to carry your baby.

Keeping your bag well-stocked is a necessity. It is always better to have more than you need than not enough. How can you do this without making your bag too heavy to carry? Keep lists of the items you need to carry for certain situations. For example, you will learn your baby’s eating, sleeping, and dirty diaper schedule after a few weeks. Keep a list of the items you always need, and then make separate additional lists for a bag that you’ll carry for items you need in the afternoon versus items you need at night versus items you need if you’ll be gone all day. Post these lists in a convenient place, such as by the phone, and check your bag before you leave to make sure you have everything on the list.

When you get home, restock your diaper bag right away. Many times, new moms are in a hurry to get out of the door. There never seems to be enough time for everything! So, when you get home, stock your bag again with all of the items you used. That way, you’re ready to leave the next day. Even if you’re in a hurry, your diaper bag won’t slow you down.

Speaking of being in a hurry, one of the best ways to ensure that your bag is well-stocked and ready to go is to look for a bag that meets your needs. Pockets are extremely important, and the size of the bag matters. You want to have enough pockets to carry of your supplies in an organized manner, and this will also help you see when certain items are running lower. When it comes to size, a bag that is too small will be stuffed, making it hard for you to find items. However, at the same time, a bag that is too big will make it hard for you to quickly find the item you need.

Remember, you aren’t going to always have exactly what you need. Sometimes, no matter how well-stocked your bag, you’re going to forget items or get into a situation where you need things that you don’t typically have with you in your diaper bag. When this happens, you have to learn how to improvise. Always keep some extra money in your diaper bag so you can pick items that you need. Keeping your diaper-bag well stocked is important, but be prepared for the unexpected!

Do you agree or disagree?  Perhaps, I missed something?  Either way, I would just love to hear what your thoughts are on this topic… just let me know your alive!
